Summer plant spotlight: Salvia ‘Caradonna’

Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ is one of the best performing summer flowering plants you can have in your garden. I use it a lot in my designs, as it is such has such stunning voilet-blue flowers. Its hardy – I’ve seen them go through dry hot summers and freezing wet winters without issue.

Salvia ‘Caradonna’ doesn’t require much care either. Position it in full sun or partial/dappled shade and keep it well watered and it will flower profusely through-out summer, particularly if you deadhead spent blooms.

I would always recommend mulching with a good quality compost, and give it a little feed with something like fish, blood and bone in the summer.

In the border it pairs well with most things. I think it looks great against grasses and other staples of prarie planting. Pair it with white Alliums for a more formal look in the border.

If you’ve got a border you would like some help and advice with, then please do get in touch! Salvia ‘Caradonna’ is just one of many staples of garden design I like to use in my planting designs.
